In the eyes of our state governor, Healdsburg city leaders have been doing a great job planning and approving the construction of more housing here in town. Gov. Newson blessed our city with his official “Prohousing” designation last week, along with Petaluma and Eureka and some other places, for what he calls our “efforts to encourage development of housing at all income levels.” There are now 37 other communities across the state with this title. It comes with state perks like “funding incentives and additional resources to help speed housing production,” the governor’s office says, adding: “Prohousing communities get priority for resources to build housing to help meet the statewide goal of 2.5 million homes by 2030.” Healdsburg Mayor David Hagele seems pretty stoked on the news. “This is a big deal in helping secure much needed funding for everything from housing to infrastructure,” he wrote on Facebook last week. “A big thank you! to our community memebers that serve on our various boards & commissions, our City staff and my fellow councilmembers (now and previous) that have collectively put Healdsburg in the position needed to qualify for this designation.” On that note, FYI, the city is hosting an “interactive workshop” for residents on Feb. 22 at the community center, where everyone will look at options for where and how to build more housing in Healdsburg.
