We may get our own “community wellness center” in Healdsburg one day soon — thanks to the Healthcare Foundation of Northern Sonoma County, some other local orgs and a few hundred thousand dollars in grant money they just received from the Providence health network, which runs Healdsburg Hospital. The center would be called Nuestra Comunidad Sana, or “our healthy community.” It’s envisioned as a “safe, vibrant, green, community space of belonging” where locals can seek help for their health and well-being. Two sister centers are also being planned to our north and south, in Cloverdale and Windsor. Here’s some more info from the foundation’s announcement: “The Healthcare Foundation with community partners launched the neighborhood convenings in December 2022, reaching out in particular to historically marginalized and underserved communities including north county’s Latine residents, to envision what future community wellness centers (CWCs) would look like for residents of the three northern Sonoma County towns. Leading local community-based organizations collaborating on the Cloverdale project include La Familia Sana, Nuestra Comunidad, and Alexander Valley Healthcare; while in Windsor they are joined by Alliance Medical Center; and in Healdsburg by Corazón Healdsburg. In all three locations the project… is being facilitated by On the Margins. The grant from Providence will go to community outreach, facilitation of community meetings, and a report to be used as a vision and roadmap toward a community wellness center that serves the express needs and desires of Healdsburg residents. Moreover, the project advances the recommendation of the City of Healdsburg’s own recent [Diversity, Equity & Inclusion] report, which pointed to the need for a multicultural community center for residents.” (Source: Health Care Foundation Northern Sonoma County & Healthcare Foundation Northern Sonoma County)
