It’s finally happening! Eastern-European restaurant Tisza Bistro & Bar is opening its doors today, in the roadhouse-style building where the beloved Singletree diner used to be at 165 Healdsburg Ave., a stone’s throw south of the roundabout. Expect a “Hungarian beer hall” kind of scene with “schnitzel, brats, etc,” says Shop Local Healdsburg. Some other highlights I’m seeing on the menu: potato dumplings, chicken cordon bleu, jägerschnitzel, spätzle, beer-battered fries and a bunch of salads and meats and stuff. Tisza used to be located in Windsor, but had to shut down at the start of the pandemic; since then, chef Krisztian Karkus has been serving up his famous wiener schnitzel, potato pancakes and more at the Healdsburg Farmers Market and other pop-up spots while he got their new brick-and-mortar location ready for business. Tisza had originally announced a summer 2023 opening date, but renovations apparently dragged on for many months longer than expected. Restaurant owners posted a thirst trap of a schnitzel pic on Instagram yesterday, writing: “The first schnitzel test right before the opening- just came out in perfection.” The restaurant’s opening hours are listed as 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on every day except Tuesday, when they’re closed. You can make reservations online, or just walk in and hope there’s room! (Source: Tisza & ToastShop Local Healdsburg via Instagram & Tisza via Instagram)
