It looks like this year’s big “fire and earthquake safety expo” for northern Sonoma County is moving back up to Cloverdale, after being staged here at the Healdsburg Community Center last year. A coalition of local government agencies and community groups launched the expo in 2021 as a one-stop shop for residents wanting to learn more about how our region’s whole emergency-response system works, get safety tips, see cool fire helicopters and firefighting demos, etc. The event was held at the Cloverdale Citrus Fairgrounds for its first couple of years, but moved to Healdsburg last year. Now it heads back up to the fairgrounds this spring, and the City of Healdsburg is no longer on the list of organizers. Not sure what happened there. Anyway, here are some more details about this year’s all-day expo on May 19, from event website: “Bring the entire family and watch the look on your kids’ faces when they sit in a fire engine, run the little Firefighter obstacle course, visit animals, or experience Henry 1 and Sonoma County 1 helicopters in action. You will have the opportunity to: meet and talk with first responders; see multiple emergency vehicles; receive hands-on training; watch emergency response and safety product demonstrations; attend live disaster simulations; browse about 75 exhibits and learn from the experts; visit our Firewise Landscape Demo Room; enjoy free food; go home with free giveaways; and more.” (Source: Fire & Earthquake Safety Expo & COPE Northern Sonoma County via Facebook)
