Cloverdale resident since 2011
What brought you here?
We were looking for a place to retire someday. My wife, Sonja, booked a B&B on River Road for a week and we looked at Mendocino, Windsor and Healdsburg, before going into Cloverdale. At the brewpub we talked to a city council member who told us about the summer Tuesday Night Movie where they closed off the street and put up a big screen. We went to the movie and saw young families at the front while the older, cool kids were at the back riding their skateboards and motocross bikes and hanging out talking to Officer Baker. There was a lot of good interaction between the kids and Baker and we saw there was something unique about Cloverdale. We explored the town and realized this is a really nice spot. I worked at the Geysers as an intern in the ‘80s so I looked for jobs and when one came up, we moved here.
What keeps you here?
The spirit of the town, the spirit of community service. The Lions Club or Kiwanis will put on an activity and all the other clubs support it. Very different groups of people come together to support any given event. Everyone wants to volunteer to make the town better and everyone is super friendly. We have two boys and being able to raise them here with the support of the community was really appealing. The service clubs have brought in our boys to do volunteer work, taught them many skills and about working with the community. They have had a wonderful upbringing in a small, safe town.
