Ernie Carpenter at the microphone
The monthly dinner meeting of the Santa Rosa Democratic Club
will feature the inimitable Ernie Carpenter serving as the
auctioneer for the club’s fundraising auction. If you’ve never
heard the former West County Supervisor call an auction, it’s
probably worth the price of admission, which is only $8 for the
dinner. The Dec. 10 event at the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial
Building kicks off at 6 p.m with a social hour, followed by 7 p.m.
dinner and 7:30 p.m. program. All proceeds from the silent auction
and auction will go to fund the Democratic Campaign Headquarters
that will be opened in August for the 2004 presidential election.
Call 575-0128 for reservations.
ACLU seeks award nominees
The American Civil Liberties Union of Sonoma County is seeking
nominations for its annual Jack Green Civil Liberties and Mario
Savio Student Activist awards, which honor individuals who have
played a role in promoting civil liberties. Green was an ACLU
member who in 1935 attempted to organize apple workers and was
beaten and tarred and feather. Savio led the Free Speech Movement
as a study at UC Berkeley and later became a professor at Sonoma
State University. Nominations are due Dec. 1. For a nomination
form, call 765-5005 or go to www.aclusonoma.org.
