Watershed Day will arrive in May
It’s time again for the annual Sonoma County Watershed Day,
designed to teach county residents about the social, economic and
ecological connections to their watershed. The fifth annual event
is scheduled for Saturday, May 22 at Salmon Creek Middle School
just south of Occidental on Bohemian Highway. The free, all-day
event includes speakers, workshops, music, poetry, displays of
school projects, activities for children, creek walks and
presentations of watershed topics. Volunteers and sponsors are

A nickel goes a long way A Forestville woman
was almost down to her last nickel at the River Rock Casino in
Geyserville recently when she hit the jackpot for a total of
$459,833. According to a casino press release, Agnes Madarus, 65,
was playing the “Wheel of Fortune” slot machine. After playing
nearly $60, she was down to her last few nickels when she hit it
big. Madarus said she visits the casino every few months. But she
is realistic about her winnings. “By the time the IRS gets through
with me, I’ll have to invest what’s left,” she said.
