Adele Jordan Whitman
Adele Jordan Whitman died on March 3 in Sarasota, Florida, her chosen home for most of the past 36 years. She also lived in Cloverdale from early 2009 until early 2011, to be near her sons and their families, before returning home to her longtime Florida roots. The RN, the person who was the last person to see her alive in her skilled nursing facility, said that near the end, Adele was “very calm and relaxed, at peace, and in no pain.”
She is survived by her remaining sons, Bob Jordan, of Cloverdale and Dick of nearby Yorkville, and their families, including her daughter-in-law Jennifer and grandson Andrew. Adele predeceased her first husband (married 1943-1987), and her second husband Richard (married 1990-2006). She loved her family deeply.
Adele was born March 22, 1923 and spent her youth in Brooklyn, New York. Adele will long be remembered by family, friends and neighbors as a gregarious organizer and hostess of many events, celebrations, film and music appreciation gatherings and, of course, those wonderful dinner parties, always with a variety of music. She volunteered actively at her beloved Unitarian Church wherever she resided until her later years. She was quite the art lover, and in the 1960s, she opened an art gallery in Norwalk, Connecticut to showcase the works of talented local artists, and personally operated the business for over a decade. She was always proud of having taught water aerobics in her middle years, keeping herself and others fit. She knew how to take charge, motivate others and get things done.
Her last few years were spent at an assisted living senior facility (and in her last month at the adjacent skilled nursing facility) in Sarasota, where she received excellent care and assistance, very near the Florida Gulf Coast communities where she enjoyed life so much for the better part of her later years.

Allen E. Sauder, 87, died on Saturday, February 13, 2016. Al was born Allan Douglas Green, in 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to Norman Frederick Green and Mary Oakes Green. Al was the third of five siblings. In 1933, Al’s mother died and approximately a year later, Al and his siblings were placed for adoption. After Ina’s passing in May 1995, Al married Carmen Stratmoen and they remained married until her passing in May 2007.

Al was known for his unrelenting humor, outrageous square dancing techniques, and his penchant for writing limericks that were both insightful and humorous. His ability to laugh at himself was unparalleled. As a teacher and community leader, Al positively influenced, touched and affected the lives of many, many Sonoma County young adults.
