Barbara Kay Peterson King passed away peacefully on April 10th, 2017 at the age of 76, finally succumbing to her battle with cancer. She was born in Alameda, CA on July 16th, 1940, the beloved daughter of Elliot and Helen Peterson. She spent her childhood years in Alameda, leaving to attend college. She graduated from the University of California, Davis and went on to teach kindergarten in the Fremont School District for 35 years, enriching the lives of many young minds.
Barbara spent the last and perhaps happiest chapter of her life in Cloverdale, CA, where she moved to be closer to her youngest son Patrick and his wife Jammie, as well as her beloved grandchildren Kaylee, PJ, Timmy and Nikole. She was also the proud grandmother to Jake King, a dutiful and loving grandson to the end. Her retirement years were spent caring for her lovely garden, reading with her grandchildren, and volunteering at the Cloverdale Arts Alliance. She was an active member of the Cloverdale Garden Club and also a member and volunteer at Al-Anon.
Barbara is survived by her son Jeff, her son Patrick and his wife Jammie (Cloverdale, CA), five grandchildren, her sister Joyce Taylor (Reno, NV), and many loving nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother and close friend Todd.
Barbara’s family is deeply grateful for the loving care that she received in the final years of her life from her son Patrick as well as her caretakers Tui and Valerie.
In May, there will be a private family memorial to celebrate her wonderful life. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Courtney’s Pumpkin Patch (529 Venezia Way, Cloverdale, CA  94575), a Cloverdale-based non-profit organization that provides assistance to local residents battling cancer.
