Ione Louise Hoefler passed away on February 28, 2005 at the age
of 86 from a cerebral hemorrhage as the result of a fall. She is
survived by her husband of 64 years Otto Hoefler; her daughter
Bobbi Chamberlain and partner Wes Brubacher; and her sister-in-law
Dorothy Vaio. She was predeceased by her parents Stella and Teresio
Vaio and her brother Vic Vaio. Ione was born in San Francisco and
moved to Italy with her parents when she was an infant. The family
returned to the US when she was six, settled briefly in Crescent
City and then moved to San Francisco where she graduated from
Galileo High School. She graduated from the University of
California at Berkeley in 1940. She and Otto moved extensively
during Otto’s career and then retired in 1976 to Sonoma County
where Ione was a member of many organizations, including the North
Bay Italian Cultural Foundation, Healdsburg Friends of the Library,
Healdsburg Museum and the Northern Sonoma County Republican Club.
She enjoyed cooking, travel, reading, working crossword puzzles,
and entertaining family and friends. Friends are invited to attend
a celebration of Ione’s life on Wednesday, March 30, at 1-3 p.m. at
Cena Luna Restaurant, 241 Healdsburg Avenue, Healdsburg.
