Robert N. Hecht, 86, passed away in Santa Rosa on Tuesday, Jan.
18, 2005. He was the dearly beloved husband of Marian E. Hecht;
father of Karen E. Sommer and her husband Stanley of Santa Rosa,
and William Hecht and his wife Patti of Windsor; and the brother of
Donald Hecht of Auxvasse, Missouri. Robert was a native of Kawanee,
Illinois. A graduate of the University of Illinois, he received his
Bachelor’s Degree in business management. Robert was a lifelong
baseball enthusiast, he played semi-pro baseball, and he was an
avid St. Louis Cardinal’s fan to the end. He was a veteran of World
War II, and served as a major in the Army Air Corp. He was involved
in convincing officials and establishing the first computer system
for the PERS retirement system in the 1950s. He went on to the
office of the California State controller, setting up the first
computer system for PIMS. An active community participant, he
served as president of the Fair Oaks Elementary School Board, and
he and his wife were involved in establishing the Fair Oaks
Presbyterian Church. They attended the First Presbyterian Church of
Santa Rosa. Services were held on Sunday, Jan. 23 at the First
Presbyterian Church in Santa Rosa. Memorial contributions may be
made in Robert’s name to the Covenant Presbyterian Fellowship, 1550
