Daniel Archibald, 66, of Sebastopol, died of complications from
lymphoma on Jan. 15. Born in Orange County, he was raised in
Eugene, OR until he joined the Marines in 1956. He served as a
corporal. He moved to Huntington Beach in 1959 where he met his
wife Frances Williams. They married in 1965. He was a Huntington
Beach resident for 33 years where he was the president of the
Toastmasters of Huntington Beach in the late 50s and president of
the Boy’s Club of Huntington Beach in the 80s. He attended Cal
State Long Beach graduated with a bachelors degree and later his
masters in recreation administration in 1973. He loved his work in
recreation and then later in human resources, his employers
included Huntington Beach Parks and Recreation, McDonnell Douglas
Huntington Beach, Fluor and Shipley. Dan and Fran moved to
Sebastopol in Sonoma County in 1992. Dan continued to work in human
resources with Flowmaster, Clos Du Bois and Wente. Dan wrote and
published “The Fruit Wine Making Quarterly,” a newsletter
distributed world wide devoted to his passion of fruit wines. Dan
was a judge at many local and national wine competitions and was an
award-wining winemaker. Often mentioned by local food writers, he
could be found every Sunday at the Sebastopol Farmers Market
selling his prized apples, pears, rhubarb, berries, eggs and a
locally produced favorite, Archie’s Honey. Dan also enjoyed his
tenure as the president of the Board of Easter Seals of Northern
California. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Frances, his
son John and wife Sandra of Lisbon, Portugal, his daughter Heather
and husband Alan Campbell of Sebastopol and their two children
Henry and Gillian.
A celebration of his life will be held in the spring when his
garden and orchards are in full bloom. Donations maybe sent in
Dan’s name to Easter Seals of Northern California.
