Lawrence J. Biagi, 84, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2004
after a long battle with congestive heart failure. Although he was
bom in San Francisco, he was a longtime resident of Sonoma County.
He was a successful, hardworking business and family man. “He could
fix anything,” said Nancy Biagi, his wife of 55 years. Biagi served
in the Navy during World War II as an Aviation Metalsmith repairing
military aircraft at the Alameda Naval Air Station. Following his
father’s footsteps, he was a cooper by trade. In 1965, Biagi moved
to Healdsburg where he co-founded the A. Bellagio Wood Tank
Company, manufacturing and repairing wooden water and wine tanks.
He was a dedicated family man who enjoyed family outings and visits
from friends. “He knew how to enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
Everyone seemed to like him and he was always willing to lend a
helping hand,” son Larry said. “Dad liked pheasant hunting and
looking for wild mushrooms.” He was an outdoorsman and liked both
hunting and fishing. His favorite place was the ocean. Whether in a
boat or fishing from shore, claming, going for mussels or diving
for abalone, he never passed up a chance to be there. He loved his
garden and could grow anything. Biagi loved good food and his
favorite was Italian. He was also a very good cook and loved to
make homemade sausage, corned beef, pasta, and other delectable
dishes from scratch. He was a member of the American Legion,
Healdsburg Post 111, as well as a member of the Healdsburg branch
of Eagles. Services were held at Romano’s Mortuary in Windsor on
Saturday, July 17, and he was put to rest at the Oak Mound Cemetery
mausoleum in Healdsburg. He is survived by his wife Nancy, son
Larry Biagi, daughter Kathy Ash, sister Rena DelCarlo,
sister-in-Iaw Sylvia Zanetti, daughter-in-law Cathy Biagi,
son-in-law Chic Ash and five grandchildren: Nicole Biagi, Julie
Ash, Crystal Biagi, Emily Ash and Jason Quinn. He was loved deeply
and will be missed.
