Eve Martinelli-Hoar was a bold and original woman with a
pioneer’s spirit. She lived her life fully and with creativity. She
loved nature, and for it she had a great appreciation which was
reflected in her oil paintings of Sonoma County’s redwoods and
coastline. Eve had great empathy and love for her community and
transformed her beliefs into actions. She participated in and often
organized events and activities to benefit the community. For
decades she worked many fund-raisers to benefit the Forestville
Youth Park, starting with a women’s baseball team called Garrison’s
Gorilla’s, then later as a cornerstone of the annual Youth Park
barbecue.
She supported community art programs for all ages, sports
programs for the youth, and shared anything she had or could make
with those less fortunate than herself. Eve skin dived in wet suits
that she made herself. She designed and created a beautiful
flourishing garden out of a barren dirt yard and with her artistic
vision and craftsmanship she remodeled the house she was born in,
utilizing the old redwood beams from around her ranch.
Eve was gifted with people, diplomatic and friendly and was
often thought of as “the peacemaker.” She often faced obstacles
with optimism, a strength that inspired those around her. She will
be deeply missed, as her life touched the hearts of all who knew
her. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7
at her home in Forestville for friends and family. Memorial
contributions are suggested to the Forestville Youth Park, P.O. Box
357, Forestville, CA 95436 or Sutter VNA & Hospice Foundation,
1100 No. Dutton Ave., Santa Rosa, CA 95401-4606.
