Virgil Franklin Stewart, 95, passed away peacefully on June 22,
2004. He was born in the little town of Charlie, Texas. Virgil is
survived by his wife Joellen Stewart of Santa Rosa; sister Tressie
Shepperd of Norman, Oklahoma; daughter Trellys Henley (Mike) of
Santa Rosa; thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Virgil was predeceased by his loving wife Retha; brothers George
Travis and Trammel Stewart of Oklahoma; daughter Beverly Baker of
Sebastopol; son Aaron Stewart of Rohnert Park and grandson Ronald
Stewart of Healdsburg. Virgil served his country by enlisting in
the U.S. Army First Calvary Division in 1927. Virgil and Retha
moved west from Oklahoma to California in 1941. He was a
jack-of-all-trades before working for the Department of Corrections
at San Quentin for 25 years. Virgil loved the outdoors. He enjoyed
relaxing at Lake Berryessa. Many a summer would his children and
grandchildren enjoy boating and skiing around the lake. Virgil
cherished long horseback rides, hunting with his hounds, water
skiing, and most of all, watching children, grand and
great-grandchildren grow up. A regret Virgil had was never seeing
the Giants win the World Series. A celebration of Virgil’s life was
held on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Fulton Road Church of Christ
in Santa Rosa. Flowers or donations can be made to the Fulton Road
Church of Christ.
