Leonard S. Echols lll, 60, passed away on January 6, 2004. He
was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and moved to Healdsburg
in 1972. He was a general contractor who designed, built, and
restored many of Healdsburg’s businesses and homes. In the
downtown, Len renovated the original Raven Theater and the building
that is now Felix and Louie’s. He built the Ann Serifem building
and the gazebo in the Plaza. He was an avid photographer and alumni
of the San Francisco Art Institute, with an opus containing
thousands of photographs. He volunteered for many years as a coach
and umpire for Healdsburg youth sports. He will be deeply missed by
his wife, Toni Echols; his daughter and son-in-law, Harvest Echols
and George Nieto; his son and daughter-in-law, Atticus and Shaline
Echols; his granddaughters, Angel and Xenia Echols; his siblings
Jon, Lizette, and Bill Echols, and numerous nieces and cousins, who
remember him as “Pookie.” A memorial celebration will be held at a
later date.
