Georgiana Burt, 87, died at her Sebastopol home on Dec. 19 of
heart and respiratory complications. Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin,
from early childhood she was involved in church work and pursued
community service all her life. She raised her son and daughter in
San Carlos and later moved with her husband Frank Burt to
Sebastopol in 1972. She then established the Summerland Light
Center, a spiritual community and ministered to many for the next
22 years. She was remarkable in her energy and insight into
people’s problems and was a great help to many who were in need.
After retiring to Kaua’i in the early ’90s, she founded the
Vegetarian Society of Kaua’i and also became an outspoken advocate
for the Hawaiian Sovereignty Movement. The Hawaiians lovingly
called her their “Haole Kupuna.” Georgiana is survived by her
sisters in the East, her husband Frank, daughter Diane Barnes and
her husband Al Barnes of Sebastopol, five grandchildren, four great
grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Her son Jim Larsen
went on before her in 1970.
