Arthur Lee Johnson passed away on March 24, 2003. Arthur was 83
at the time of his death. He was a lifelong resident of Penngrove.
Arthur joined the Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific aboard the
USS Waters and the USS White Marsh until the end of World War II.
Arthur returned to Penngrove after the war to start a life as a
chicken rancher. He established one of the largest chicken ranches
in the area during the 1950s. In the 1960s, Mr. Johnson worked as a
truck driver for the Safeway Bakery in Richmond until his
retirement in 1985. At that time, Arthur returned to his career as
a rancher. He is survived by his son Gustave “Butch” Johnson and
his wife Dorothy of Fairfield and his daughter Marcille Alvey and
her husband Gary of Healdsburg, five grandchildren and one
great-grandchild. He will be missed by his family and friends. God
