Pleze Leo Magers passed away on November 29, 2002 at the age of
77 years old. He was born on August 25, 1925 in South River,
Missouri and came to California in 1941. He lived in Oakdale where
he met Evelyn E. Magers, his beloved wife of 58 years, by whom he
is survived. Before coming to Healdsburg in 1954, he lived in
Humboldt County. He lived most of his years in the Alexander
Valley. He was truly an honest man and a loving father. He is
survived by Ginger and Dave Wilson of Silver Springs, Nevada, Gail
and John Daniels of Farmersville, California, Kathy Adams of
Bandon, Oregon, Peggy and Brigido Aleman and Laura Hagins of
Windsor. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and their spouses,
19 great-grandchildren, and by his sisters Evelyn Pruit and her
husband Lowell, Karen Woolsey and her husband Jerry, brothers Vic
Magers, and Leroy Magers and his wife Carol of Oklahoma,
sister-in-law Joan Magers of Healdsburg, and numerous nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Bessie
Magers-Siedler, father Earl Magers, four younger brothers, Earl
Jr., Leo, Eddie, and Harvey and two young nephews and one niece. He
came to California at age 16 and two weeks later lost his right
hand in a farm accident. This never kept him from being a
hard-working man. People would think that he was not capable and
believe that he was disabled, but he always proved them wrong. He
was a stubborn man and would not allow having the loss of a hand
get in his way of providing for his family. He worked for Sunsweet
Dryers in Healdsburg from 1963 to 1987 as a mechanic and foreman.
He also worked on several ranches and farms in Healdsburg. When he
was young, he loved to ride horses. He learned to swim when he fell
into the Mississippi River from his homemade raft. He also enjoyed
dancing and spent much of his free time working on cars. Even with
one hand gone, people were amazed that he could pull an engine from
a car and rebuild it and put it back by himself. He was a member of
the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1673 in Healdsburg. A Memorial
Service was held on Sunday December 8, at the Alexander Valley
Christian Church in Healdsburg. If desired, donations may be made
in his name to The Diabetes Society of Sonoma County, 2777
