Sebastopol native Glenn E. Doward, 87, died on Oct. 27 in Castro
Valley. Born and raised in Sebastopol, he graduated from Analy High
in ’33. He served in the U.S. Army in Northern Africa, Sicily and
Italy during World War II and won a Bronze Star before his
honorable discharge in ’45. In 1942, he married Elaine Cahill of
Sebastopol. She died in ’76 and he married Dorothy Watson Robinson
of Graton in ’77. He worked as an office manager in the truck
rental business from ’46 to ’77. He managed summer league baseball
teams for many years in Castro Valley during the ’50s and ’60s. He
graduated from Cal State Hayward in ’88, 46 years after his college
career was interrupted by the war. He was a long-time member of an
autobiography class for seniors and learned gourmet Chinese cooking
after his retirement. Doward is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his
son, Michael and his wife, Stephanie Doward and their daughter,
Emily, Dorothy’s son and his wife, Bruce and Jan Robinson of
Forestville and their sons Randy, Eric and Todd. No services will
be held. Donations in his memory can be made to St. Anthony’s
Dining Hall in San Francisco.
