Martin Antonio Lorenzo, Sr. died Feb. 6, 2008 at his home. He
was 79. Lorenzo was best known in Sebastopol and western Sonoma
County as the owner of Marty’s Top ‘O’ The Hill bar, restaurant and
nightclub, which many still consider a landmark.
Lorenzo’s parents Florencio and Julia Lorenzo emigrated from
Spain and moved to Sebastopol where they raised their family.
Lorenzo is survived by siblings Carmen Kozlowski of Forestville,
Henry Lorenzo of Palm Springs and Ann Lorenzo of Reno, NV.
Lorenzo was a graduate of Pleasant Hill Elementary School and
Analy High School. He married Wilma Moberg and together they had
five children. Lorenzo divorced and next married Carol Cooper who
had three children of her own, Rick and Linda Brown and Jackie
Cooper.
After a brief stint at farming, Lorenzo decided to try out the
bar industry. He first bought the Ponderosa in Santa Rosa in 1969,
which he ran for several years, then sold to two of his boys. In
the meantime, he bought “Marty’s Top ‘O’The Hill”, which he ran for
27 years, before selling it.
Lorenzo also bought Giga’s Bar in Santa Rosa, which he owned for
the past 22 years and still owned at his death.
Lorenzo was a cancer survivor of the past seven years,
undergoing many treatments and major surgery in November 2006, at
which time he was given a short time to live.
Lorenzo is survived by his wife; Carol (Giga), his children;
Mark Lorenzo, Susan Lorenzo, Michael Lorenzo, Martin Jr. (Denise),
Gregory Lorenzo, Rick Brown, Lynda (David) Mendoza and Jackie
(Marty) Cooper. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 11 great
grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services were held Feb. 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the
Lafferty & Smith Colonial Chapel in Santa Rosa. He was buried
at Santa Rosa Memorial Park. As an expression of sympathy, the
family prefers memorial contributions be sent to the Sutter VNA
& Hospice (Employee Fund), 1110 No. Dutton Avenue, Santa Rosa,
CA., 95401.
