Mary “Nonie” Simmons, born Mary Buchignani on Nov. 1, 1914,
passed away peacefully on Jan. 29, 2008 surrounded by her loving
family. She was married to the late R.L. Simmons “Nono, “ on Sep.
25, 1948 and survived by her son, Charles Gelatini (Betty),
daughter, Barbara Perezchica (Lupe); grandchildren Karen Sumner
(Bart), Teri Manuel, Tina Johnson (Mike), Monette Silva (Mark),
Lori Baca (Jim), Matthew Perezchica (Sheri); great-grandchildren
Justin, Aaron, Cody, Clark, Alexander, Alexandria, Lauren, Morgan,
Jerad, Leanna, Chandler, Isabella, Donnie and Ashland; caregiver
and niece, Marie Barajas (Art), and many nieces, nephews and
cousins. A lifelong Sonoma County resident, Mary grew up on a ranch
in Dry Creek and continued to live in the Healdsburg area
throughout her life. She was a devoted mother and wife who loved
gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. Known as
“Nonie” to everyone, she will be sadly missed and always in our
hearts. Family and friends were invited to a viewing Monday, Feb.
4, 2008 from 3 to 6:30 p.m., with a rosary that followed at
Windsor-Healdsburg Mortuary. A funeral mass was held on Tuesday,
Feb. 5, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 208 Matheson
Street, Healdsburg, CA.
