An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was convened at Clary Hall On Tuesday, Sept. 8 to present Cutler Price with the Eagle Scout rank from the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Troop 21.
Cutler Price, the son of Douglas and Margaret Price, attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor within the Boy Scouts of America organization.
The ceremony was presided over by Martin Dreiling, Troop 21’s committee chair, along with current Scoutmaster Douglas Price presenting the award of Eagle Scout to his son. Senior Patrol Leader Gary Munsell led the posting of the colors, pledge of allegiance and the Scout Laws. In attendance were Cutler’s family friends and members of Troop 21.
Cutler began Boy Scouts in fifth grade, at age 11. He flourished under the direction of Scoutmaster Bryan Curtis, and developed his leadership, outdoor and community service skills during his time with the Troop. As a member of Kiwanis-sponsored Troop 21, Cutler enjoyed the challenges and skills learned along the way, which included a trip to BSA’s Bechtel reserve in West Virginia for the National Jamboree. He has particularly enjoyed camping, activities and sports, such as the Order of the Arrow, mountain biking, spelunking, hiking over 300 High Sierra wilderness miles, orienteering and whitewater rafting.
In order to earn the rank of Eagle, the Scout must conceive, plan and implement a Leadership Service Project of his own choice; Cutler’s project, working with the Kiwanis Club of Healdsburg, was the creation of a pocket park on the corner of Fitch Street and Mason Street. The project involved cleaning up the abandoned lot, spreading wood chips and installing split rail fencing, a picnic bench and a bench seat.
The work involved planning, purchase of materials and management of the Scouts and volunteers from the Healdsburg Kiwanis Club and involved over 250 combined volunteer hours to complete.
The creation of the park took an abandoned lot and transformed it into a shady spot for a picnic with a view of the future train station for the community of Healdsburg and its visitors.
Cutler is currently a freshman at California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo, studying Architecture.
