Town hall meetings to discuss medical marijuana regulations are being held around Sonoma County.
County Supervisors are seeking input from residents as they decide how to write laws that will shape the cannabis industry and cannabis use, even as Californians consider legalizing recreational use for adults.
“The focus of these meetings is to gather input from our constituents to assist us in developing policies that will effective for our community,” said Fourth District Supervisor James Gore.
The meetings will begin with a brief presentation from staff from different county departments. They will also answer questions, receive feedback and engage with residents to inform the policy options they bring forward to the board for consideration, said Gore.
Gore said public input will be critical. “Comprehensive regulations for a new industry present a significant challenge, as well as an opportunity to both address longstanding neighborhood concerns and for members of the industry to legitimize their businesses. It is critical for our community to get this right, and the input of our residents is key to the development of successful policy.”
The upcoming Fourth District Town Hall is on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts, 50 Mark West Springs Road in Santa Rosa. More information is at www.sonomacounty.ca.gov/
