Board to discuss granny unit laws
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 24 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Board of Supervisors chambers, located at 575 Administration Dr. in Santa Rosa.
Changes to ADU laws
Residents living in unincorporated areas may want to take note of a public hearing occurring at 2:10 p.m. as the board aims to pass an urgency ordinance that changes the county’s accessory dwelling unit ordinance (ADU).
The urgency ordinance comes on the heels of a new statewide law that came into effect on Jan. 1, 2017 that amends all ADU ordinances. Changes to ADU laws are aimed at lowering costs and reducing requirements for ADUs, also known as secondary dwelling, granny or junior units. New provisions to the state’s government code include reducing water and sewer fees for certain types of ADUs; eliminating setback requirements for certain types of ADUs, such as garages; prohibiting municipalities or agencies from imposing certain parking standards.
