Plass sworn in as interim council member
The Healdsburg City Council finalized its decision Tuesday night to hold a special election to fill the term of Eric Ziderich, who recently resigned.
The winner of a June 6 election will serve a relatively short term. The election will not be ratified until early July and the term will be up at the end of 2018.
Two weeks ago the council convened with the inention of appointing someone to fill Ziedrich’s term, but could not come to a consensus on who to appoint or how it might be accomplished.
After a lengthy discussion and public testimony supporting the appointment of one of two former council members, Leah Gold and Gary Plass, the council chose the special election process instead.
Plass, who just completed three terms on the council, was appointed Tuesday night to serve as an interim council member until the June election.
The council also authorized an expenditure of $33,100 to cover the cost of the special election. Plass and Gold have not stated clearly that they will seek the seat, but both have expressed interest.
