Librarian Jon Haupt

With every month comes a multitude of activities in your public library, along with occasional challenges. Such was the case in March with the news that our event featuring author/illustrator Todd Parr would need to be rescheduled. Todd had unexpected family business to attend to — but he’ll be back on Thursday, April 13 at 4 p.m. Again, this will be a fun event with reading, drawing, and chatting with Mr. Parr while he signs books (on sale at the event from Copperfield’s) as well as a donation opportunity: bring a new stuffed animal or book to donate to children living in shelters in Sonoma County.
Our Healthy Living series continues at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, with Cooking in Season, presented by the popular Veggie Queen, Jill Nussinow. Pre-registration is required, which can be accomplished on the library’s web calendar or by calling or stopping by the library in person. Two additional sessions are coming up as well with Transform Your Posture Through Yoga, a class provided by SRJC staff, on Friday, April 14 at 3 p.m. as well as Rethink Your Drink, a simple half-hour nutrition education class on Saturday, April 15 at 11 a.m.
Also offered on Saturday, March 25 at 2 p.m., we will present a free performance by the local ensemble Trio Pizzicato. The trio plays traditional Italian mandolin tunes and songs in a style reminiscent of an Italian café. Their repertoire includes a wide variety of dance and vocal music.
A presentation of The Elephant and Piggie Show, a special puppet show, will be presented on Saturday, April 1 at 10:30 a.m. by our own Ms. Charity and a few of her Children’s Librarian colleagues. Their production features four favorite Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems presented in an engaging puppet show form. This show will be of special interest to families of children ages four and up.
On the children’s theater track, we also look forward to another visit from Traveling Lantern Theatre Company on April 15 at 2 p.m. Their high-quality, low-stress traveling productions are well-known around the area and we look forward to this performance of the heroic deeds and jolly adventures of Robin Hood.
For those interested in expressing their point of view on library services, please place April 11 at 6 p.m. on your calendar. Library staff, along with the Healdsburg Library Advisory Board will host a public community conversation about library public service hours. We hear the need for Monday hours loud and clear, and will be opening on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. beginning in May. The possibility remains, however, for additional open hours, given the success of Measure Y in the fall — and we would like to know when you’d most like the library open. We look forward to talking with you.
Jon Haupt is the Branch Manager of the Healdsburg Regional Library.
