Seventeen-year-old Dreiling, son of Martin and Debra Dreiling, has attained the rank of Eagle Scout, one of the highest honors within the Boy Scouts of America. A January 14 ceremony was presided over by scoutmaster Douglas Price, with former scoutmaster Mark Teitz presenting the trail to Eagle and assistant senior patrol leader Kieran Price leading the posting of the colors, pledge of allegiance and with troop guide Gary Munsell presenting the Scout Laws. In attendance were Henry’s parents, relatives, family friends and the members of Troop 21.
Dreiling began Cub Scouts in first grade, at age 6. He flourished under the direction of Cub master, Craig Urasaki. At age 11 he entered Troop 21 and developed his outdoor and community service skills under the current scoutmaster Douglas Price. Dreiling, as a member of Kiwanis-sponsored Troop 21 enjoyed outdoor and leadership challenges and skills learned along the way. He has particularly enjoyed all the camping, activities and sports such as mountain biking, whitewater rafting, cooking, pioneering, orienteering and wilderness backpacking.
In order to earn the rank of Eagle, a scout must conceive, plan and implement a leadership service project that has an impact benefiting the community. Dreiling’s project was to plan and build and install raised planting boxes to be used for Healdsburg 4H agricultural and gardening projects. The garden was designed to provide fresh produce grown at the site to be donated to the Healdsburg’s Shared Ministries Food Pantry.
Dreiling planed, implemented and completed construction of six redwood raised planter boxes at the community garden located at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Terrace Boulevard in Healdsburg. Dreiling coordinated the project with Rick Kaye of the Terrace Community Garden, which included the site development, material acquisition and managing the work crews. Dreiling secured funds for the project with the help of Healdsburg Kiwanis Club and Healdsburg Rotary Club, along with donations from Healdsburg Lumber and Aaction Rents.
Outside of scouting, Dreiling is a junior at Healdsburg High School and plays the trumpet in both the Healdsburg High School and community bands. He plans on attending a four-year university after high school, and aspires to take on future leadership roles within scouting.
