Rewarded for work in agriculture
Emma Manoukian, a 2016 Healdsburg High School graduate, was awarded a $3,250 scholarship from PG&E for her work in agriculture.
“It’s my favorite time of year when we get to help out deserving agriculture students with their college education,” said Lloyd Coker, customer relationship manager for Ag and Food Processing with PG&E.
The PG&E scholarship is awarded through the Farm Bureau Foundation of Sonoma County, which provided 44 students in Sonoma and Marin counties with scholarships totaling $130,000. This is the third year the PG&E Ag Scholarship has been given through the Farm Bureau Foundation of Sonoma County.
Manoukian has her state Future Farmers of America (FFA) degree and was the North Coast Region FFA president. She attends Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, majoring in agribusiness and minoring in agricultural communications.
At last year’s Sonoma County Fair, a lamb she had been raising sold at the auction for $10 a pound.
“We are honored to support these graduating high school seniors and students who are continuing their education at a four-year university or the Santa Rosa Junior College,” said Kim Vail, executive director of the Sonoma County Farm Bureau. “With partners like PG&E, we can help support them as they continue their studies in agricultural business, animal science, dairy science, ag education, viticulture and diesel technology.”
The Farm Bureau Foundation is a nonprofit charitable foundation. Its mission is to provide education and services for the benefit of the agricultural community. Each year, the foundation administers scholarships provided by organizations, businesses and individuals to assist deserving students in their agriculture education.
