Meeting taking place at high school library
The busiest person of the evening at the next Healdsburg Unified School District Board of Trustees meetimng will be Director of Curriculum and Instruction Erin Fender, who will be on hand to make a presentation on the instructional focus and curriculum for the 2017-18 school year and then lead the public hearing portion of the meeting for the annual “sufficiency of materials” review.
This annual state requirement allows the public to weigh in and the board to affirm that all students have or will have by the end of the year all of the materials they need to receive complete instruction. Fender will also update the board on the Title III program in the district, which provides language instruction for limited English proficient and immigrant students.
Director of Business Services Steve Barekman will be responsible for multiple items on the agenda as well, including a report on enrollment and staffing for the district for the 2017-2018 school year, and the ever-popular “unaudited actuals” financial report.
Unaudited actuals are the reports of activities in all district funds, and they identify unspent funds or reserves being carried forward. Because these documents will be used by external auditors to prepare the annual audit report, they are considered to be “unaudited” actuals. Because of how school funding and calendars work, these numbers are always for the preceding half year, meaning these numbers will be for the end of the 2015-2016 school year.
Human resources manager Francesca Whitcomb will present new job descriptions for the following existing positions: administrative assistant, parent outreach and education assistant and college and career coordinator. This is part of an ongoing effort to make the current descriptions match the actual jobs being performed by district employees.
In addition, there will be a resolution naming Oct. 8-14 the week of the School Administrator and during the “celebrating success” portion of the evening, Emma Esquivel will present information on the Summer Science Program.
The next meeting of the Healdsburg Unified School District Board of Trustees takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m., at the Healdsburg High School Library, 1024 Prince Street, Healdsburg.
