Suspects is from Healdsburg
According to a statement released by the Santa Rosa Police Department, on Tuesday, Sept. 26, a police detective saw a black Buick Envision, which he recognized as stolen, near the intersection of Guerneville Road and Fulton Road. He relayed the information to a patrol officer, and upon seeing the patrol officer the woman driving the car made U-turns in the area in an attempt to evade him.
The fugitive eventually headed north on Fulton Road, driving fast, weaving through traffic and running red lights. A second officer saw the vehicle near Piner High School and joined the pursuit. The vehicle continued north on Fulton Road at speeds estimated over 80 miles per hour through traffic. Due to the circumstances, officers discontinued the high-speed pursuit but continued to drive north in an attempt to find the vehicle.
Officers located the vehicle on C Street, near the intersection with Fulton Road in the town of Fulton. The driver had apparently attempted to negotiate a turn from Fulton onto C Street, lost control and crashed into a street sign and a parked vehicle on the north side of the street.
Witnesses told police that the driver, a female in her 20s, had run east on C Street. As she ran, she fell in the street before getting up again and heading north on Somers Street.
Police and Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies contained the area then conducted a search using SRPD K-9 officers and their dogs. While searching the rear yard of Friendly Feed Store on the east side of Somers Street, one of the dogs alerted on an air scent left by the suspect.
Further search of the area by officers and dogs revealed the suspect hiding in a stack of pallets about 15 feet off the ground. She was taken into custody.
“There were 15 police cars surrounding the property, they were on the street blocking River Road and Fulton, clearly looking for something,” Friendly Feed owner Tim Campbell said when asked to describe how he became aware of the situation. “They told me they were looking in the back, and asked had I seen a woman. They walked through, asked me to open different things.”
Upon discovering they were looking for a fugitive, Campbell went up to his office to look at security camera footage, where the suspect was visible crossing into a pile of pallets.
“But, at that point, they had drawn their guns, and were calling out, ‘Police, come out with your hands up.’ I let them know I had video, they were trying to figure stuff out, they were checking trailer across street, then they came up and found her.”
Campbell said there was no disruption to his customers or business due to the police action.
“They just moved some pallets around. It was just a place to hide—it could have easily been at my house down the street as anywhere,” he said.
The suspect, identified as Danielle Denise Keller, a 25-year-old Healdsburg resident, was taken to the Sonoma County Jail where she was booked for driving a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, evading a police officer in a vehicle with wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property, hit and run collision, obstruction and resisting arrest and violation of probation. According to SRPD’s Sergeant David Linscomb, she was not found to be intoxicated or under the influence at the time of her arrest.
According to the Sonoma County Jail website, her bail was set at $50,000 and she remains in custody. Her first court date is scheduled for Oct. 12.
