Dennis Payne Keegan died Nov. 18, 2007 at his home in
Sebastopol. He was 86. He was the husband of Martha C. Keegan for
47 years and father of William Keegan and wife Anna of Vallejo;
Eugenia Keegan of Portland, OR.; David Keegan of Santa Rosa; Stacy
McLaughlin and husband Richard of Santa Rosa and Paul Keegan and
wife Cinzia of Gusago, Italy.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Norman Keegan,
William Keegan, Nicholas Keegan, Ashley Keegan, Daniel Keegan,
Nathaniel Fahrner, Alexander McLaughlin, and Giulia Keegan. Keegan
is also survived by his brother, Francis L. Keegan, and wife
Vivian; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two
great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother, William Keegan, who died in
the European Theater while serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force
during World War II.
Keegan was born to William Dennis Keegan and Adelia Payne Keegan
in Santa Rosa. He attended St. Rose Elementary School and graduated
from St. Joseph’s Academy at Mountain View. He attended Santa Rosa
Junior College for two years before completing his undergraduate
degree at the University of San Francisco in 1942.
During World War II, Keegan served in the Merchant Marines.
Keegan enjoyed a very distinguished and diverse law career, joined
the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office in 1948 and working in
private practice until his retirement in 1995. He was Sonoma County
Bar Association president in 1959, was appointed to the State Bar
Disciplinary Committee in 1969, and also served on the Bar
Association’s Superior Court Committee as a volunteer arbiter and
settlement conference panelist for the Superior Court. In 1998
Keegan was honored by the Sonoma County Bar Association as a
recipient of the Careers of Distinction Award.
Keegan was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed flying small private
aircrafts. The family wishes to thank Michael Pepper, Keegan’s
caregiver and the Home Hospice nurses and Health Care Providers of
Memorial Hospice.
A Funeral Mass was held Nov. 26, 2007 at St. Rose Church, Santa
Rosa. Private burial was held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
