Florence Dorothy Kubes transitioned peacefully on Monday, July
2, five months into her 102nd year of life. She was born in 1906,
the year of the San Francisco earthquake, and a native of
Cleveland, OH. She was an excellent homemaker who raised her family
in Redwood City, CA, and relocated to Healdsburg in 2003 to be near
her daughter. Over the span of her lifetime, she experienced
retrieving milk from the corner store in buckets, the outhouse, the
horse and buggy, dance cards, the rise of the automobile, women’s
suffrage, the birth of commercial air travel, prohibition and
bathtub gin, The Depression, two world wars, the discovery of
penicillin, a man on the moon, and countless inventions. Needless
to say, she looked forward to participating in Healdsburg’s 150th
Celebration! She was kindhearted and polite to the end, this strong
gentle lady was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by her
daughter Carol Novak; her grandchildren, Karen and David
Passalacqua of Healdsburg, and many longtime friends of Redwood
City, CA. In that city, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, a
memorial mass will be said for her in the late summer.
Contributions in her memory may be made to you favorite
charity.
