Housing for Healdsburg – The city of Healdsburg celebrated the completion of a new, 25-unit affordable housing apartment complex on Grove Street during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Feb. 11.
Healdsburg Mayor David Hagele, Vice Mayor Leah Gold, Councilmember Evelyn Mitchell, City Manager David Mickaelian and Assistant City Manager Joe Irvin and a few Healdsburg Glen residents came together on a rainy Monday afternoon to cut the ribbon of the complex, which features one to three-bedroom units for families with 30 to 60 percent of the area median income.
All units are occupied and 20 units were given priority to people who have lived or worked in Healdsburg for at least two to three years. There are currently 400 people on the lease waitlist.
Before the ribbon was cut, Hagele spoke of the event, saying Healdsburg Glen’s completion represents a milestone in the affordable housing challenge. He added that the city has not yet reached the finish line of housing.
Hagele said, “This is something that we as a council care very deeply about and making sure that there is housing that is affordable … We are here to celebrate this, but it is also a moment of inspiration down the road. We are going to be cutting a ribbon and I want to make sure everybody understands that we as a council do not see this as a finish line.”
City Manager Mickaelian also spoke, thanking the apartment developers and the nonprofit that worked on the project, Pacific Housing.
