The Healdsburg Community Band announced this year’s concert schedule, including five main performances plus a number of special appearances.
The season will begin with the annual Pops Concert on Saturday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Raven Performing Arts Center, 115 North St. Admission is free.
The program will include selections from “Hamilton,” “Les Miserables,” “Fiddler on the Roof”and other favorites from stage and screen. Randy Masselink will conduct.
The band will also perform two spring concerts of light classics this year.
One show will be on Sunday, May 19 at 3 p.m. at the Healdsburg Community Church, 1100 University St.
The other will be at the Cloverdale High School East Gym, 509 N. Cloverdale Blvd., Cloverdale. Date and time to be announced.
The latter concert will benefit Cloverdale Adds Resources for Education.
On Sunday, June 2 at 1 p.m., the band will perform on the Healdsburg Plaza, with a program of favorites selected by band members.
On Saturday, June 8, the band will travel to San Francisco to perform at the Golden Gate Park Band Festival. The Healdsburg portion of the program is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Sprecklels Temple of Music (near the de Young Museum).
Community bands from throughout Northern California will be featured. Admission is free.
The band will also play selections of patriotic favorites and marches on the Healdsburg Plaza as part of the annual Fourth of July festivities. HCB will also perform as part of the annual FFA Twilight Parade on May 25, and smaller ensembles will participate in the Cloverdale Citrus Fair Parade and provide music at selected Healdsburg Prunepacker games.
“2019 marks our 37th season, and it’s gratifying to see the talent and energy that our volunteer musicians put into each performance, with the support of the community and sponsors,” said David Brandt, Healdsburg Community Band president.
The Healdsburg Community Band is all-volunteer, comprised of about 50 local musicians who get together for the joy of making music and serving the community. The not-for-profit organization supports music at Healdsburg High School with scholarships equipment purchases and the Cloverdale schools.
Band members have a wide range of skill levels, and local residents are encouraged to join if they play or used to play an instrument. There are no auditions, but applicants should have basic ability to read music. Visit www.healdsburgcommunityband.org.
