According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Red Flag Warning is being issued for Friday night, June 7 until Sunday afternoon, June 9. The warning pertains to the North Bay hills above 1,000 feet.
The NWS issued the alert on Friday morning at 9:29 a.m.
Red Flag Warnings detail critical weather conditions that put specific areas at a higher risk for fire.
According to the warning put out by the NWS, an offshore wind gust of 40 to 50 mph will sweep through the mountains on Friday night. The strongest winds are predicted for early Saturday morning and Saturday night, with a possibility of 60 mph gusts.
This, coupled with weather in the 90s and low humidity, present a high fire risk.
“Although fuels are not at critical levels, a weather event of this magnitude will allow fire to carry through finer fuels such as grass,” states the warning. “Winds will ease on Sunday but temperatures will soar into the 90s to near 100 degrees with continued light offshore winds.”
The warning is in effect from 11 p.m. on Friday to 5 p.m. on Sunday. According to the NWS, the hills of eastern Napa county and around Mt. Saint Helena have the highest threat levels.
