Kathryn Hokanson died at 85, on March 11, 2007 from lymphoma.
She had been living the past two years with her son in Sebastopol.
She was born Dec. 11, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Emma and Seth
G. Johnson. She married Dale R. Hokanson in 1941 and they moved to
Northern California in pursuit of work. They raised their five
children in Concord and later moved to Fairfield. She and her
husband were married for over 60 years, until he died from a stroke
in 2001. Kathryn volunteered for 15 years at the LDS Geneological
Library in Fairfield and for over 13 years as a volunteer at the
Solano County Food Bank. She was honored as Volunteer of the Year
for her dedicated services to the needy. Despite her many jobs, she
regarded her work as a mother and grandmother as the most
important. She always put her family first and loved being in the
presence of all her grandchildren.
She is survived by her five children, Brent E. Hokanson of
Fairfield, CA; R. Lane Hokanson of Forestville; Garth Gordon
Hokanson of Sebastopol; Dalene Hokanson of Milford; and Reed E.
Hokanson of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by daughter-in-laws
Donna and Louisa Hokanson and son-in-law Ron Zimmerman. She
additionally is survived by 10 grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Kathryn had been an avid gardener and had a greenhouse full of
orchids that she cultivated. She especially loved trees, many of
which she learned to identify as a child from the guidence of her
father. As she contemplated her passing, she asked that those who
wished to remember her could do so by planting a tree or donating
to the National Arbor Day Foundation.
Funeral services were held at the Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in
Fairfield on Wednesday, March 14.
