Kathryn Lestena (Katie) Carter was called to her heavenly home
Aug. 5, 2006. Kathryn was born on Sept. 25, 1917 in Stanford, Ill.
to Lester and Sophie Amelia Shields. In 1929, the family moved to
Tulare, Calif.. where Lester was a minister for the First Church of
God. Kathryn attended high school in Tulare where she met her
eternal soul mate, William Carter. The newlyweds moved to
Huntington Park where they were blessed with a daughter, Kathleen.
The family then settled in Downey, Calif. where sons William and
Robert were born. Kathryn was a woman of faith and family. She
worked as a missionary for neighboring churches, as well as
teaching bible school. Kathryn was president of the PTA in Downey
and chairwoman for the charity for the blind. Kathryn never failed
to help or counsel a person in need.
The Carter family moved to Cloverdale in 1957. Kathryn worked
for Torvick Chevrolet/General Motors dealership for 25 years.
Kathryn was an avid member of Eastern Star since 1959. She held
many offices throughout the years including secretary, deputy grand
matron and three tours as worthy matron. Kathryn was also a member
of the Secretary for the Women’s Improvement Club. She enjoyed
playing bridge and pinochle and loved to garden. Kathryn was a
member of the United Church of Cloverdale and Healdsburg Community
Church. In 1983, William and Kathryn moved to Healdsburg where they
retired amidst their prune orchard and roses. They enjoyed
traveling and visiting the state capitals.
Kathryn will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know
her. She was the dearly beloved wife of 61 years to the late
William R. Carter. Survived by sister Carol Jones of Oregon. She
was the loving mother of deceased daughter, Kathleen Bee, and sons
William and Robert Carter. Adored grandmother of: Debbie, Richard,
Diane, William, Chris, Tricia, Lestena, and Sarah. Beloved great
grandmother of: Anna Rosa, Angel, Charlie, Samantha, Ashley,
Chantel, Coleman, Carter, and Zachary. Loving great-great
grandmother of: Hope, Lillian, Elizabeth, Amelia, Jameson and
Travis.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, Oct.
8, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge located 324 Center St. in
Healdsburg. Memorial donations may be made to Healdsburg Community
