The Healdsburg Senior Center has been serving the community
since 1986. The center is located at 133 Matheson St. in downtown
Healdsburg and is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The
center gives preference to adults 60 and older. If there is
available space, adults of all ages are welcome to participate in
any program of interest. Unless otherwise noted, all programs and
classes are free of charge.
Upcoming Bus Trips
King Tut Exhibition
On Thursday, August 27 we’ll be traveling to the DeYoung Museum
to see the King Tut, The Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition
which features over 130 outstanding works from the tomb of
Tutankhamun, as well as those of his royal predecessors, his
family, and court officials. This exhibit includes many new and
exciting elements not seen in previous versions of the exhibition,
including a revised version of the catalogue, a new audio tour, and
additional artifacts from Tutankhamun’s tomb. Fee: Members
$64/Non-Members $74. Fee assistance available for those
eligible.
Broadway Musical – South Pacific
The musical “South Pacific” swept the 2008 Tony Awards, winning
seven honors including Best Musical Revival and Best Director for
Bartlett Sher. Set on a tropical island during World War II, the
musical tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples and how
their happiness is threatened by the realities of war and by their
own prejudices. The beloved score’s songs include “Some Enchanted
Evening,” “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair “There is
Nothin’ Like a Dame.” Fee: Members $95/Non-Members $105. Fee
assistance available for those eligible.
Digital Photography Seminar
Do you want to switch to a digital camera but feel you need to
know more before you buy? Do you have a digital camera but do not
know what to do with your pictures once you have taken them? This
presentation is for you! The agenda includes: choosing a camera,
understanding mega pixels, photo editing software, common editing
problems, old photo restoration and photo printing. Monday, August
31, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Fee: $15 Senior Center Member/$20

Knitting for Novices
Learn to knit from professional seamstress & crafter, Diane
Hoskins! Participants will knit a scarf as they learn how to use
needles, select yarn and understand terminologies and patterns.
Participants need to bring 1 skein of yarn and size 10 needles with
them to class. Monday, Aug. 10, 2 to 4 p.m. Fee: $29
Gentle Yoga – Now on Fridays too!
Participants now can opt to take the Wednesday class from 10-11
am or a new Friday class, also from 10 to 11 a.m. Or you can do
both each week. Classes are held at Healdsburg Yoga Studio. This is
an excellent class for improving flexibility, breathing capacity,
balance and muscle strength. The Wednesday class is a predominately
seated class; the Friday class is on the floor. Both are taught by
Deborah Karish, a licensed chiropractor and yoga instructor who
specializes in working with older adults. Wednesdays beginning June
29; Fridays beginning July 31. Fee: $65 for a 6-week session or
$105 for both Wednesday and Friday (a 20 percent discount)
Do you Enjoy Singing?
Come sing for the pleasure of doing so in our new program of the
same name: Singing for Pleasure under the direction of Michelle
Holland, piano and vocal teacher. This program is open to everyone
— those with singing experience and those without! No audition
required. Participants will learn and practice easy vocal
techniques to increase personal enjoyment of singing. We promise it
will be a fun and uplifting! Michelle has been a piano and voice
teacher for over 20 years. Her passion is music and sharing it with
others. Come join her for this new program which will be expanded
in the fall. Tuesdays 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. beginning August 11.
Fee: $20 members/$25 non-members.
Please note: Most of our programs and all our classes and bus
trips which require a fee, need a minimum number of participants to
be held. Please register early if a class or trip interests you to
avoid possible cancellations of programs due to lack of enrollment.
Assistance with activity fee available for eligible
participants.
