Adolph F. “Bert” Bertoli Entered died July 1, 2008 at the age of
a 73. Bertoli grew up in Healdsburg and graduated from Healdsburg
High School. He later became a police officer for the City of
Healdsburg and led a long and distinguished career in education in
Sonoma County.
He was a graduate of Santa Rosa Junior College and UC Davis,
earning teaching degrees in agriculture and a masters degree as
well. Besides being a teacher he was a Future Farmers of American
chapter advisor, football coach and administrator at Analy High
School.
Later he served several terms as a trustee for the Analy Union
High School District Board of Education, spanning some 18 years.
He also was an officer with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s
Department. His brother “Lou” Bertoli also worked in law
enforcement and was a longtime chief for the Healdsburg Police
Department.
Bertoli was very dedicated to youth, education and agriculture.
He was a past member of the Sonoma County Airport Commission,
Sonoma County Fair Board, Sonoma County Juvenile Justice
Commission, and City of Sebastopol Bond Advisor.
He was a past Sonoma County 4-H All-Star, 4-H Chick-n-que
volunteer for over 30 years, and “Friend of 4-H.” Past President
and Lt. Gov. from the Sebastopol Optimist Club, Past District
President of the Italian Catholic Federation, member of the Young
Mens’ Institute, member of Phi Delta Kappa and was an active
member of St. Sebastian’s Parish.
Bertoli was predeceased by his parents, James and Emily Bertoli
and his brother, Louis Bertoli.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lona, his sister, Edith
Bertoli, his children, Hon. James Bertoli (Noël), Carolyn Bowen
(Dan), Dina Graham (Dan), and Mia Bertoli-Davis (Ricky), his
grandchildren, Kimberly Petersen, Cassie Petersen, Brad Graham,
Danielle Graham, Zachary Davis, and Kylee Davis and numerous
relatives and friends.
After teaching in many different fields including winemaking and
vocational rehabilitation counseling, he spent his semi-retirement
doing such things as driving bus for the County of Sonoma and
performing real estate appraisals.
In addition to family time, Bert loved to watch the Giants at
home or at AT&T Park, play cards with “The Pinochle Club,”
watch his grandchildren participate in sports, and socialize with
his fellow retired teachers.
A Rosary shall be conducted at St. Sebastian’s Church in
Sebastopol at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 11 and a memorial mass will be
held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 12 at St. Sebastian’s with a
reception to follow at the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made
