Learn about the importance of fruits and vegetables in our diet and the benefits of complex carbohydrates.
Get tips on how to increase fruits and vegetables in your diet and learn easy recipes for smoothies, soups and broths.
The presenter is Jenny Helman, a holistic nutrition consultant. She graduated with honors from Bauman College in Penngrove.
Jenny combines her passion for healthy eating with a desire to help other’s change their health through healthy foods. Jenny also teaches nutritional seminars.
AARP Smart Driver Course
Aug. 24 and Aug. 31, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Must attend both days
AARP Smart Driver Courses are for drivers 50 and older. A certificate is awarded upon completion that may entitle a graduate to auto insurance discounts for three years. AARP Tuition recommends that students check with their insurance company before attending the class to determine whether they are eligible for a discount.
Developed by AARP, the course reviews the effects of aging and defines what drivers can do to compensate. The course covers rules of the road, how to get a good fit with your car, car maintenance, the effects of medication and alcohol on driving and when it may be time to stop driving.
Tuition is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members, payable by cash or check only. Make checks payable to AARP.
Bring your driver’s license and AARP membership card (if applicable) to class.
Mind Fit Series – Activities to boost brain health – Fridays,
July 24 – Aug. 8, 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Peter Holewinski of Home Care Assistance and the Healdsburg Senior Center have partnered to present this innovative and informative series.
Just like the body, the brain can show signs of aging over time. While this is a natural result of growing older, there are positive lifestyle changes that can help make your mind sharper for longer. In this six-part series you will learn proactive ways to enhance cognitive functioning including fun group activities used in the Cognitive Therapeutics Method.
Space is limited to 20 students. Call 431-3324 to reserve a seat. This class will meet at Healdsburg Senior Living, 725 Grove Street in Healdsburg.
Stroke Support Group
Third Friday of each month
July 17, 2:30 – 3:45 p.m.
Life after a stroke can be very challenging for both the patient and the family.  Healdsburg District Hospital has partnered with the Healdsburg Senior Center to provide an opportunity for patients and family members to share information, discuss their concerns, and socialize with one another.
