Germano Ramazzotti (August 24, 1920 – July 30, 2008), long time
resident of Dry Creek Valley, transitioned to his next destination
on July 30, surrounded by his family.
Having survived the Russian Front as a soldier with the Italian
Army, and having survived two years in a German prison camp, he
could not escape the illness of the last couple of months.
Germano was a very proud man, courageous and kind, who loved the
land on which he worked for so many years. He was a master welder
who worked for the state of Italy until he immigrated to the United
States with his wife and children in 1958. His beautiful iron work
can be seen in fences and gates throughout Sonoma County.
Germano loved his wife of 62 years, Yolanda; his five children,
Marie Williams (Richard), Joe (Norma), Romana Behrens (Larry),
Adrian (Shellie) and Linda Colliver (Ken); his nine grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
He took joy in sharing stories of Italy. He loved music and
dancing and working in his garden – no one could grow tomatoes like
Germano. He loved his many friends and life in general, and
insisted on living it under his own terms and in his own way.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his
friend and doctor, David Anderson, who took care of him to the very
end, though at times he was a challenging patient.
Germano will be greatly missed by all of us but his spirit will
remain with us forever.
Visitation was held August 3 at Romano’s Mortuary in Windsor. A
Funeral Mass was held August 4 at St. Johns Church. Burial to
follow.
