Here’s what’s happening at the Senior Center in September:
Picnic on the Plaza:
Celebrating our age-friendly city
You are invited to join us on Sunday, Sept. 23 for a picnic on the Plaza in celebration of our upcoming World Health Organization age-friendly city designation. Bring an appetizer (last name A-M) or dessert (last name N-Z) to share. Entrée, seating, beverages, live music and entertainment for all ages will be provided.
Everyone is invited. The age-friendly designation is a commitment to the community that elected leadership will continue to work toward making Healdsburg livable for all ages, from 8 to 80 and beyond. For information on age-friendly cities, visit https://www.880cities.org.
Learn-2-Ride Day:
Since the city subsidized the Sonoma County Transit (SCT) shuttle route 67 on July 2, the July adult ridership increased 34 percent, senior riders by 38 percent, and youth by 103 percent.
The free route provides transportation options for all ages and ridership proves that riders are taking advantage of the opportunity. The shuttle was featured at the Tuesday, Aug. 14 concert, where local parents, grandparents, and children had the chance to hop on the bus, sit in the driver’s seat and ask SCT representatives questions about local and inter-city routes.
I invite you to join me and on the bus for a “Learn-2-Ride Day” on Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 9:45 a.m. to noon. Meet at the senior center at 9:45 a.m. or hop on the bus from a stop near you. Learn how to ride the local route and take advantage of this complimentary service. Trip planning between cities, bus routes, stops and tips for a quality experience will be discussed.
