Free adult education certificate programs
The City of Healdsburg has partnered with Santa Rosa Junior College to offer courses at the Healdsburg Community Center (located at 1557 Healdsburg Ave.) as a part of the city’s “Age-Friendly” initiative. These courses are free non-credit, short term adult education certificate classes that can be completed in less than a year.
Classes are for English and Spanish speakers. Skills obtained through these courses can be applied toward a four-year degree, career advancement, and English as a Second Language development. These classes are for adults of all ages, from 18 to 80 and beyond, and designed to build an educational framework that can be used at home or on the job.
This new and evolving partnership with SRJC and the City of Healdsburg envisions a progressive and continuing growth of courses targeted to support the needs of our diverse population. Community members interested in learning a new skill are encouraged and take advantage of this resource located in Healdsburg and enroll. The fall and winter certificate class offerings will include:
Landscaping: Plants and Environmental Conditions: (bilingual), Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4:10 p.m. Oct. 6 through Nov. 17. An introduction to green gardening and landscaping with emphasis on occupation-specific terminology and communication skills, using common phrases for interacting with clients and future employers. This bilingual class will benefit the home gardener and the career landscape technician.
Computers Level 1: (English or bilingual option), Bilingual classes are on Mondays, 9 a.m. to noon, Oct. 29 though Dec. 10. English-language classes are on Tuesday and Thursdays, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 30 through Dec. 13. For those who have little or no experience with computers. Students will learn the parts of a computer, how to use the keyboard and mouse/touchpad, do web searches, create and use an email account, and create Microsoft Word Documents. The Tuesday/Thursday course is taught in English. The Monday class is taught in English and Spanish.
