Eloise Batchellor Hoffman – Mill Creek
native
Eloise Batchellor Hoffman, beautiful mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Jan. 22, 2009. Eloise,
(or Weaser, as she was known by family and close friends), was born
to Lillian and Stillman Batchellor on Feb. 12, 1921, in Healdsburg,
CA. She grew up at the end of Mill Creek Road west of Healdsburg in
the pioneer community of Venado. An only child, she loved riding
her pony, Monk, to attend school in the one-room Daniel School.
Eloise attended Ursuline and Healdsburg High Schools and
graduated in 1939. She attended Bouve College in Boston where she
received a BS in Physical Education and later a teaching
credential. Upon returning to California, Eloise taught at the
Katherine Branson School in Marin County.
In 1947, she married her childhood friend, Martin Hoffman. They
lived at the family home in Geyserville – now known as the Hoffman
House Restaurant – until 1974. They grew prunes, grapes, pears,
apples, and vegetables, and raised farm animals and children.
Eloise loved giving to the community through her involvement with
Campfire Girls, 4-H, and PTA; and most of all, shared her passion
for horses with her children, grandchildren, and many others. An
accomplished equestrienne, she not only taught them how to ride,
but also encouraged and supported their participation in parades,
local fairs, and horseshows. She was also a staunch
environmentalist, excellent photographer, and a writer of simple
poetry. An avid gardener, her vegetable garden was her pride and
joy.
Eloise and her husband, Martin, loved the outdoors and enjoyed
camping, backpacking, and hiking in the wilderness areas of
California, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Canada, and New Zealand. They
had an amazing camp in Burnt Ranch in Trinity County, where they
spent many happy times with family and friends.
A devoted grandmother, Weaser cherished her time with each
grandchild and great-grandchild. She supported their many interests
and activities, always attentive and involved in what they were
doing. With an adventurous spirit and a heart of gold, Eloise left
this life with dignity and grace. She will be greatly missed.

Patricia Lynn Reeves – Worked tirelessly in children’s
education
Mrs. Patricia Lynn Reeves was born on July 1, 1945 in Pittsburg,
Pennsylvania. She passed away in peace and love on January 26,
2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She lived a
wonderful and full life and will be missed more than words can
describe by all who loved her.
Patti spent her infancy in Europe and then moved throughout the
U.S. as her father was transferred from base to base as a physician
and officer with the U.S. Army Air Force. Her family eventually
landed in California. Patti attended Lone Mountain College in San
Francisco and graduated with a BS Degree in History. After college
she joined the Peace Corps and spent several years in South America
where she began to fulfill one of her dreams to travel and help
make a difference in the world. She eventually settled in
Healdsburg where she worked tirelessly in children’s education and
improving all aspects of education. Her dedication to the
underserved and disadvantaged was a signature of her career as a
teacher and vice principal, and she was known for her advocacy
towards advancing the potential in every student, regardless of his
or her shortcoming.
She married the love of her life, Gary Reeves (who has passed
away) and they had three wonderful children (Juno, also deceased),
Xica and Taj. Patti and Gary spent several more years living in
Brazil and teaching. She spoke Portuguese, Spanish and French. She
loved to travel and spent much of her time off exploring the world,
sometimes close to home, sometimes further away, and always with
her family.
Patti was brilliant and possessed a progressive and amazing
intellect and capacity for learning. Her interests and passions
were varied and included literature and the arts. She loved reading
and writing and had an insatiable desire to constantly learn. Had
she ever been on the Jeopardy show, she would have easily won. She
loved nature, especially the mountains and the ocean. She loved the
Giants and the 49ers. She loved to cook and made the world’s best
Caesar salad and stuffed artichokes. She had a strong intellectual
interest in and fascination with dreams, and had a rich spiritual
life, which included the metaphysical exploration of the
psyche.
Patti loved all that is good in the world but mostly she loved
Gary and her children and her family. She was a true and lifelong
friend to many. No one could ever have asked for a better mother,
wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin or friend. She is survived by
her children Xica and Taj Reeves, her father Dr. Sam Camarata and
her siblings Mikie Joyce, John Camarata, Dr. Chris Camarata, SJ
Camarata, Peter Camarata, Celie Schoustra and Dr. Gerry Camarata.
She will be missed immensely and cherished forever. Anyone wishing
to make donations in Patti’s memory please direct them to the
Healdsburg Education Fund.
