We told you so
Editor:
For the past year or more, the citizens of Windsor have been telling the Town Council and the Supervisors that the Lytton Pomo Tribe is not to be trusted to keep their word. During the last five years or more, the Council was promised that the Tribe would be good neighbors and honor their agreements. The Council members’ reactions to the news that the Tribe is starting the demolitions of old buildings on their Windsor property is almost amusing. They are puzzled, concerned, surprised and troubled that the Tribe has changed their minds and will forgo trying to get voter approval for their plans. Now, maybe Windsor won’t get its $6 million pool and the continued payments for maintenance and mitigation to the disasters that will occur when the Tribe completes its new dream reservation. The Lyttons keep donating to Congressmen Huffman and Denham, and campaign committees of both major parties are hoping to continue the buy off to get their land into Federal Trust. The Tribe never intended to be a good neighbor, and will not honor their promises and commitments. They will continue to destroy the environment and the housing development near their land, and build a huge winery, huge resort and a casino. The Council and the Supervisors have been sold a bill of goods that is worthless. What a disappointment for the citizens of Windsor and Sonoma County that they were elected to represent.

Doing the right thing
Editor: A quote from “Vineyard owner signs up to save fish”(Windsor Times, March 10, 2016, page 1) sums up what is wrong in Windsor and most of the rest of the world today. Mayor Mark Millan is quoted as saying, “It’s not in Windsor-proper but for the watershed, it’s a beneficial thing because Windsor wants to be seen as participating with the rest of the region in enhancing our watershed.” The point is not to do the right thing so you can be seen doing the right thing. The point is to do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do. Hopefully, the Mayor and the rest of our Town Council will do the right thing in this matter and other issues of concern to Windsor residents, not because they wish to be seen, but because they truly want to do the right thing.
