Editor: I was so excited for the new Giorgi Park to open because
before it closed I was there twice a day everyday with my children.
My friends and I have children who range from newborn to four-year-
old. We met Saturday afternoon at Georgi Park and were in
disbelief. What made the old park so nice was that it was fun for
children of all ages. Our young children love to climb, explore,
and be on the swings, but now the park very much caters to a much
older child. It is heart breaking because it is moms like me who
use the park and who are there all the time. It is not older
children because they are in school.
This town is full of parks for older children. We were hoping
for something similar to what the old Giorgi Park offered but just
made more modern. This new park isn’t safe. On the bridge people
were tripping crossing over and little people’s feet go through.
The climbing turf is very dangerous because it is very steep so you
have older kids running up it and kids going down it. I saw a few
collisions on Saturday afternoon.
The water feature is not something parents enjoy. Our kids love
it, but they get cold, wet and then very unhappy. Little children
want to do what the big kids do. Make a park that works for all
ages with enough to do. It feels like the park was designed in a
rush not thought out.
