Wednesday market
Editor: Do you know we have a Healdsburg Farmers’ Market on Wednesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Purity/Cerri Lot on North Street between Grove and Foss Streets? It is a fabulous market. And don’t use parking as an excuse not to go. You can park on the lot on Wednesdays. Hope to see you there next Wednesday.

Local gem
Editor: I very much appreciated Rollie’s column on special districts and agree on the necessity for broad oversight of those tax dollars. However, our local healthcare district is notably transparent, carefully audited and scrupulously observant of the Brown Act. The meetings are noticed, open and reported. The distribution of the tax revenues is reviewed, reported and audited, and openly available for public scrutiny. We should be aware and appreciate the value of our local gem, providing it with both oversight and support.

Citizen service
Editor: I was saddened to learn of the passing of Kent Mitchell. Kent was on the City Council in 2000 when I was hired to be the city’s building official. Kent was very welcoming and supportive during the time we worked together. He always had a kind word and thoughtful inquiries when discussing the permit process and our customer service. After Kent left the council I would often see him at various city functions where he would make it a point to chat me up and ask how the department was running. We have lost a kind and good man. Kent set a fine example of citizen service to his community that we should all try to emulate.
