Buy gas where they don’t sell tobacco
Editor: Friends, all 250 of you who signed a petition saying you would patronize a gas station that voluntarily followed the city ordinance to not sell tobacco products to those under 21, I finally have one for you. For the month of February, Wine Country Chevron at 1496 Healdsburg Avenue will voluntarily do this. It is opposite the Food Pantry and next to the gym on north Healdsburg Avenue. Please patronize this station, and most importantly, go inside and thank them for doing this. If you did not get a chance to sign the petition, that’s OK, go there please. With enough praise and business, he may continue this after February. Thank you, Healdsburg.

Voters did not have the facts in 2014
Editor: A team of Healdsburg volunteers led the ballot initiative to stop putting an artificial industrial byproduct of the fertilizer industry as a fluoridating agent into our drinking water. This chemical is not a naturally occurring fluoride endorsed by local dentists, not by California Dental association, nor the American Dental Association, because it does not have any verifiable studies that it is safe for ingestion for humans, animals, plants, etc.
This new signature gathering is merely asking for a halt to using an unapproved chemical in our water – a right we have under the Clean Water Act of California – until verifiable proof for safety for ingestion. One has to ask Mr. Widick why don’t you care that your patients drink safe water? Oh, and your letter (Jan. 21, 2016) regarding the National Sanitation Foundation – all they do is vouch for chemical performance, and the eight-page Material Safety Data Sheet from the water department is for proper handling of an extremely acidic chemical, so that no one is injured while pouring it in the pipes.
Lastly, all residents of Healdsburg should ask for the certificate of analysis of the toxin added to your water, it comes from China. Oh, I forgot to mention the Chinese don’t fluoridate their water because they know it’s toxic. Healdsburg residents wake up, don’t be passive like Flint, Michigan.

Rotary gives thanks
Editor: 1,300 pounds of fresh cracked crab; 350 people served; over $100,000 raised. Those are some of the numbers from the annual Rotary Crab Feed that was held at the Villa Chanticleer in December. We’ve been doing this for quite a few years, and every year it seems to get better.
This year was another sell-out, and it was our best ever. It’s a huge all-volunteer undertaking, that takes many months of planning and preparation. Event Chairman John Avakian, and President John Hazlett devoted countless hours to this endeavor. Their commitment, along with that of all Healdsburg Rotarians, paid off quite nicely as evidenced by the numbers.
Of course the success of the event is directly attributable to our patrons, donors, sponsors and attendees. We could not do this without the support of the good people and businesses of Healdsburg. You are the ones that make it successful, and we sincerely appreciate your ongoing support. Thank you all.
Where does the money go? Most of it goes right back into the support of various local nonprofits and Healdsburg educational institutions. We also donate to varied international programs that are in need of support.

Thank you again, Healdsburg. We hope to see you at the Crab Feed next December, or at our next event … Green Hair Day (St. Patrick’s Day), the Easter Egg Hunt, etc.
