Drought and food security
Editor:
What will become of the Central and Sacramento Valley farmers without the usual amount of water? They will have to grow less.  Where will Ray’s get its produce and at what price to us and at what cost to the planet? Perhaps the grape growers will consider more diversity on their land.  If worse comes to worse, I would rather have food than wine. Food security is something that we all have a stake in. That is why I keep promoting the use of Thyme Square property for food growing and, just as importantly, as a demonstration/training depot for growing food with the latest technologies for conserving water and energy. There is a way to even grow food in the desert using a funneled collar that collects the dew and allows it to drain back into the soil. My daughter to the north only waters her vegetable garden every two weeks but then waters quite deeply with lots of mulch.
We, at the Community Garden Oasis, are fortunate to have a good well but we will also practice new methods of conserving water this year. The less we use, the more can make its way toward the river. It is appropriate and timely that we all take more responsibility in producing our food needs.  We still have available plots at $35, $70 and $100 a year for three different sizes and it is not too early to claim one for yourself by calling 894-2736.

Shame on you, whoever you are
Editor:
I am writing once again in regards to “The Listener” AKA “The Green Lady” who has once again been vandalized. I know there are people out there who do not like this sculpture, and they have that right. Most people give their opinion and let it go for they have other things in life that matter more, but not this person.
That this person had vandalized our “Green Lady” with a ball peen hammer this time, troubles me. This is not a kid kind of prank; this is a warped act of revenge. I think this is an adult that did this sick deed and in broad daylight. Shame on you, whomever you are.
I am very glad, and so should we all be, that the Affordable Care Act covers mental illnesses. I think this person should seek some help. After all, if a person can be so disturbed about a piece of art, obviously obsessed by their hate and doing what they can to damage “The Listener,” then I have no choice but to question their mental health.
I’m just saying, “Please seek help,” because in my opinion, you really need it.

Another crab feed success
Editor:
The 2014 Cloverdale Lions Club Annual Crab Feed was a great success. I would like to thank several from our community that helped to make it such a great event. First I would like to thank the CHS Girls Softball Team. They provided great service with a smile and worked their legs off. Thank you to all who came and enjoyed the feed and helped us support our community.
Thanks to all the local business who donated raffle items; R-Salon, Plank Coffee, Eagle Tech, Tranquility Massage and Spa, Brian Myers Photography, Jeromy Jojola, C.V. Plumbing Inc. and Soil King Garden Center. A special thanks to all the businesses who sold crab feed tickets; Roux’s Autobody, The Mail Center, Napa Autoparts and Eagles Nest Deli and Grill. Last but not least thanks to all of the Lions members that gave of their time freely and worked hard to give our community such a great crab feed.
